Like any martial art properly taught and properly practiced, Taekwondo is a non-aggressive system of self defense.

ATA Martial Arts Mission Statement:  By providing quality martial arts instruction, support and recognition for our students, Santa Rosa ATA Martial Arts is teaching leadership skills and building confidence by creating a positive and supportive community of families who enjoy an active lifestyle and are making a difference in our neighborhood by inspiring others to live their best life.

Santa Rosa ATA Martial Arts is a fun and supportive place for the whole family located in Sonoma County.  Parents come to us looking for self defense and a way for their kids to learn discipline and build their confidence at the same time.  They get so much more than that because at our school it is not only about the weekly martial arts classes, but about bringing families together and creating a community within our school where all of our ATA families build relationships with each other. From our summer BBQ celebrations, to Nerf night parties for kids, to our biggest party of the year - Halloween, to belt graduation parties and celebrating accomplishments together - at ATA Martial Arts we look forward to training and celebrating together!

Students from ages 4 through adults train with us and many times we have every member of the family including both parents active in the school. It's fun watching the little ones who are around the school when they are babies watching their older siblings training and shortly after they become members in our ATA Tigers program.  This is a place that feels like family for everyone involved, somewhere where people start out as strangers and end up as close friends through their journey in our program.  This is the same experience I had as a child starting out at 10 years old in an ATA program in Southern California. I knew that one day when I opened a school that I wanted it to have the same family feel as the place I came from, and I have been successful in creating that here in Santa Rosa.

Taekwondo developed from humble beginnings over 1,000 years ago and has since spread internationally to become one of the world's most successful and popular martial arts. Its practitioners enjoy physical and mental discipline, as well as excellent fitness and the ability to defend themselves if necessary. Taekwondo is not only a combat sport, but is also a way of life for students and their families.

The word Taekwondo means "The Way of the Hand and Foot." Songahm Taekwondo is the style supported by the ATA, a style developed by Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee to make it accessible to anyone willing to learn. Songahm Taekwondo is more than just learning self defense, it also focuses on personal development of the mind and body.

The "Songahm Star" is the pattern that is formed on the ground if all 18 forms of the Songahm system are completed. In a perfect Songahm Star, the distance from the center point of the star to the top point is nine footlengths.
